Youngsters take plaudits in QWDL

Posted on December 15, 2011 at 7:10 PM

Youngsters Eddie Le Bailly jnr & Joe De Sousa made the headlines in the Quants Winter Darts League on Monday.

Eddie (16) who made his first Jersey appearance in this years Inter-Insular is recognised as one of the Islands top players even at such a young age. Anyone who may have doubted this claim may have to reconsider after his performances in recent weeks.

Following on from a fantastic maximum 170 check out for the Mont Felard against the Bagot "A" on the 21st November he proved it was no fluke by doing it again on Monday night against the Early Grey also hitting a 129 checkout and 15 dart leg in the match.

Eddie Le Bailly jnr

Also making the headlines was 11 year old Joe De Sousa who secured his first win of the season for the Bagot "A" against the Temple, hitting a 180 and a 140 in due course. An excellent effort for young Joe who seems to be getting over the effect of being one the youngest players ever known to suffer Dartitis.

The Jersey Darts Organisation are delighted to announce that they have been granted full membership of the World Darts Federation.

The JDO Co-Ordinator Stuart Moon attended the WDF General Meeting in Castlebar Ireland on the 20th September, where he spoke somewhat nervously to the WDF Executive Committee and delegates from from 34 WDF member nations about the current JDO and its aspirations for the future.

The membership was proposed by Denmark and seconded by Trinidad & Tobago. Then all 34 voting nations signalled their approval of the Jersey application and Jersey was inducted back into the WDF.

The WDF World Cup is currently being played in Castlebar and although Jersey were unable to attend this year, we hope to be represented in the 2012 European Cup in Belgium and the 2013 World Cup in Canada.

Tough day for Jersey elect at the Winmau

Posted on September 2, 2011 at 4:15 AM

It was a tough day at the Winmau World Masters for the five Jersey qualifiers. However, some of the performances will give them confidence going into todays Lakside World Championship Qualifiers.

First to the oche was Steve Eusebini (Beanz) who was drawn against current world number 23 Dave Prins but "Beanz" who reached the last 32 at the Isle of Man open in 2010 the same year Dave Prins won it took the game to Prins and led 2 Sets to 1. However its was Prins the 2011 Hungarian Open champion who rallied to come back to win by 3 Sets to 2.

2010 Isle of Mann winner Dave Prins

Next up was the ever impressive Eddie Le Bailly (The Eagle) who was the only Men's player to make it past the first hurdle with a tough fought 3-2 win over England's Ian Pallett. "The Eagle" was then met with the tough task, of taking on world Number 15 Wesley Harms of the Netherlands. It was no surprise that "The Eagle" who has had a good summer season managed to take a set off of Harms but the Dutchman proved to be to good winning through by 3 sets to 1.

Wesley Harms

Paying at the same time was Phil Speak who was another player to receive a tough draw against the 2004 Quater Finalist Rick Hofstra from the Netherlands. The Dutchman was in top form and easily one through by 3 sets to 0.

Last up for the Men was Craig Quemard who drew the World number 85 from Scotland Ewan Hyslop and in another epic battle it was the Scotsman who scraped through by 3 sets to 2.

The Jersey men will be back in action today when they try to qualify for the Lakeside World Championships in January. We will keep you up to date with their progress here.

For Jersey junior Edward Le Bailly it was the last 32 again this year. Following the 4 leg to 1 win over Adam Gwilliams he faced Sam Cankett who impressively defeated the young Jerseyman by 4 legs to 0. Cankett went on to make the Semi-Finals where he played the up and coming Jake Jones with Jones making the final which will be played this afternoon.

Winmau World Masters Qualifiers

Posted on August 25, 2011 at 10:15 AM
These took place on Sunday 31st July at the Ommaroo Hotel.

The format for the qualifiers was a knockout to the last 8 which then became a round robin.

A decision by the JDO prior to the event was to seed 8 Players from the 2011 Inter-Insular Squad. This would mean they would first enter at the last 16 stage but would be kept apart to play one of the other non seeded players who had made it to the last 16 stage.

Unfortunately only 4 of the seeded players entered the competition and they were progressed directly to the last 8. 4 Players from the knockout would join them in the round robin.
